About

Welcome to pastorbrett.com, or soundoftruth.org! Here is what you can expect:

1. A variety of video sermons, podcast episodes (Sound of Truth podcast), and blog posts. Subjects are primarily about things related to the Bible, spiritual growth, books, church history, contemporary Christianity, and sports.  I especially enjoy encouraging people in their walk with Christ.

2. If you dig back into the past on this site you will find it used to be primarily a blog, but as time has passed it has morphed more into a site to post video content.

3. In regard to the older blog content, here are some of my most popular posts: “Tips for an Effective Devotional Time”, “Professor Horner’s Bible Reading Plan”“The Story Behind Grace”, and “Should a Christian Drink Alcohol?”

Thanks for stopping by and have a grace-filled day!

FAQ

Where are you from and where did you go to school?  I grew up in a small town in rural southern Illinois, called Benton. I am a graduate of Benton High School, Union University (B.A.), Southwestern Seminary (M.Div.) and Luther Rice (D.Min.).

What Bible do you use? As much as I would love to report that I have one Bible that is my main Bible, I am actually someone who uses multiple Bibles daily. I read through the entire Bible every year using two different translations. For example, in 2018 I read through the Old Testament in the New Living Translation (NLT) while I read through the New Testament in the King James Versions (pictured below; to purchase one go HERE). Then in 2019 I did the opposite, reading through the Old Testament in the King James and the New Testament in the New Living Translation.  I preach most frequently from a New King James Version text produced by Holman and bound in brown goatskin leather by R. L. Allan (click HERE).

TBS Windsor
My TBS Windsor (King James Version). This photograph was taken back in 2009, right after I got it. It has since rebound by Diego Caloca in black goatskin with four royal blue ribbons. It is my everyday Bible.

Where do you pastor? I am the founding pastor of Harvest Jacksonville – A Bible Church, which is a wonderful group of authentic followers of Jesus Christ.

What are your hobbies and interests? History, sports, hunting, music, and, most of all, spending quality time with my family.

Life verse? I struggled with coming up with a life verse for a long time. I think I have finally settled on John 15, verse 5, where our Lord Jesus said: I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
