Christian Love on the Football Field

In Texas there is a football coach knows how to integrate his faith into his sport. Rick Reilly’s recent ESPN the Magazine article features a recent decision Hogan made before a game. Go ahead, click on the link and read the article; it’s worth your time.

Wanting to know more about this coach and this school I found the school’s website. Faith Christian School of Grapevine is the school and here is the stated purpose of their athletic program:

 

The purpose of the athletic program at Faith Christian School is to develop and graduate authentic Christian leaders. In addition to developing personal character, sportsmanship, and athletic ability, student athletes are encouraged to give their best effort and learn the vital life skills so readily acquired in athletics. In victory or defeat, students are taught to demonstrate grace, humility, and dignity.

My friend Phil Eyster at Eagle Projects International just posted this photo sent to him from a friend in a Muslim country. You can see the blood covering the streets after the Festival of Sacrifice last week. As we approach Christmas it is good to be reminded that we are celebrating the coming of the One who takes away sin, the one “who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.” (Hebrews 9:14).
Christmas is the great missions story as God the Son crosses cultural barriers to redeem for Himself a people. May our celebrations indicate this truth.

TV Influences Sexual Activity Among Teens

A recent study reveals that there is a link between teenagers’ exposure to sexual content on television and teen pregnancies.  To quote Gomer Pyle, “Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!”

Parents who think unmonitored TV watching for their children is harmless should take heed.  Limiting and monitoring TV watching for your children will not only help them avoid moral failure in the future, it will also help them developmentally.

Should a Christian Drink Alcohol?

Should a Christian drink alcoholic beverages?  Christians are divided on the subject.  Some Christians, known as prohibitionists, believe that drinking alcoholic beverages is morally wrong.  Another group, known as abstentionists, believe that abstaining from use of alcoholic beverages is the wise and loving position.  A final group, called the moderationists, believe that drinking alcoholic beverages is acceptable provided they are not abused to the point of drunkenness.  All Christians agree that drunkenness is a sin.
